In 1847, Cartier Co. was founded by Louis-François Cartier in Paris. Alfred Cartier, son of Louis-François was appointed as the company management, but the founders of the universal brand were Pierre, Jacques and Louis (Alfred Cartier’s Children). Jacques opened the first Cartier Boutique in London. Pierre became the boutique manager and Louis was engaged in designing a style which we know today as “Cartier”.
Probably, Cartier brothers had been so lucky this time for the reason that Princess Mathilde, one of the young cousins of Napoleon IIIwas fond of Cartier’s jewelry. Such passion turned Cartier into private jeweler of royal families and wealthy individuals in the world. Reputable families including the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Morgans andWoffords were good examples of Cartier’s loyal clients.
King Edward VII (England King), in 1902, awarded the title of “Kings’ Jeweler and Jewelers’ King” in his coronation ceremony to Cartier. In 1904, King Edward VII ordered 27 crowns through a royal decree to Cartier. After a while, wave of demands flowed by Spain, Portugal, Russia, Siam, Greece, Serbia, Belgium, Romania, Egypt, Albani, Monaco kings and Orleans Parliament.
Only after two generations, Cartier brand could realize the title of “Jewelry King” with great power worldwide.
After death of Louis and Jacques in 1942 and Pierre’s death in 1964, the company was out of Cartier family control and in 1972, an investing group leading by Joseph Kanoui purchased Head Quarter of Cartier in Paris. While New York and London offices of Cartier were bought too in 1974 and 1976, the bases to form unified branch management “Carier Monde” were provided in 1979.
Having more than 200 stores in 125 countries around the world, Cartier as a part of the commercial “Richemont Group” beside other luxurious names of this group like Van Cleef & Arpels, Chloé, Baume et Mercie and Montblanc manufactures delux products (Glasses, watches, jewelries, pens, perfumes and leather goods).
It is good stating that Cartier offers each of the products as a sub-collection for the below collections:
Happy Birthday, Trinity de Cartie, LOVE, Panthère de Cartier, Caresse d'orchidées par Cartier,Santos de Cartier, Tank Française, Pasha de Cartier,Collection les must and Paris Nouvelle Vague.
And in Optical industry, Cartier has been able to maintain the title of “Jewelry King” by its unique power along with manufacturing fine glasses.
